Growing up, Je’Caryous Johnson was no ordinary child. The only male in a house full of women – Je’Caryous was forced to grow up fast. As his mother endured abusive and loveless relationships, Je’Caryous vowed to not only change her destiny, but the journey of thousands of women just like her.
After being labeled an underachiever with a learning disorder, Je’Caryous worked tirelessly to turn the table on his life. Now, at 35, Je’Caryous is proof that anything you set your mind to do can be accomplished with hard work, determination and perseverance. And his accolades and accomplishments are indicative of his determined nature.
Je’Caryous is no stranger to the entertainment industry. With over 19 years of experience in the performing arts and the second highest grossing playwright in the world with over $100 Million grossing, he has directed some of the best acting legends, including Billy Dee Williams, Richard Roundtree, Vivica A. Fox and Louis Gossett, Jr. Je’Caryous has also trained with such theater masters such as Jose Quintero, and having been trained by Edward Albee, America’s greatest main stream playwrights, and August Wilson, America’s greatest African-American playwright, Je’Caryous is the best and most diverse contemporary playwright to date.
The four-time national championship playwright is a recipient of the NAACP 2007 Trailblazer Award and is the youngest producer/playwright to garner national media attention. He was the first person to adapt an African-American romance novel into a stage play. He was also the first person to write and produce a novel and a play, simultaneously. With his youthful appeal, Je’Caryous was handpicked by the estate of Sammy Davis Jr. to write Mr. Bojangles on Broadway: Sammy Davis Jr. – The World’s Greatest Entertainer. The distinction gives him another first – the youngest creator of a Vegas show. Davis’s estate also requested that Quincy Jones (who owns the rights to the biography) collaborate with Johnson on the Broadway show.
Today, Je’Caryous’s creativity, coupled with his business savvy, have made him a powerful force in the entertainment arena and one of the most sought-after writers/directors/producers in the industry. His entertaining, thought-provoking scripts have attracted some of the biggest names in the business – celebrities who would love to star in one of his shows. And his roster of celebrity friends reads like a Who’s Who in Hollywood.
Known for adapting best-selling novels into plays, Je’Caryous decided to branch out and write his own novel to go along with the play, Men, Money & Gold Diggers. He followed that with the play and novel, Whatever She Wants. Je’Caryous also penned the bestselling nonfiction book, I’m a Good Man…You’re a Good Woman…So Why Can’t We Find Each Other? His upcoming novel, Eye Candy crosses new boundaries with edgy Christian fiction.
Naturally, a man with this much talent can’t be confined to the stage. He is now leading his company, Je’Caryous Johnson Entertainment further into the entertainment industry as they take on the world of television and film. Up first, a series of direct-to-consumer films, which will showcase his trademark humor, with entertaining and enlightening messages. Je’Caryous is also hard at work on a slew of full-length feature film projects, several television projects and a host of other ventures. Known for his impeccable oratory skills, Je’Caryous is a much sought-after speaker who dazzles audiences with his profound wisdom and unique ability to infuse humor with empowering messages.
A firm believer that ‘perception shapes reality,’ Je’Caryous is driven by a few core beliefs:
“I am and can be all that I think I can be!”
“I think, therefore I am.”
“For there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so!”
“Forgiveness and Faith yields favor.”
“Je’Caryous’s greatest fulfillment comes in simply inspiring others to love, laugh and live life to the fullest.”
In the midst of all of that he does, Johnson remains committed to his family, friends and church, finding strength in his favorite scripture, Ephesians 3:20: Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
