Get ready for Destiny’s Child: The Musical, y’all!
We just received word that Beyoncé‘s father Matthew Knowles is teaming up with theater producer Je’Caryous Johnson on Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical — a bio-musical with its sights set on Broadway, London’s West End, and eventually… a world tour! Whoa!
The musical promises to provide “an honest depiction of the achievements, obstacles, and evolution of the world’s most iconic girl group and the mastermind behind them,” suggesting it’ll focus both on the pop star aspects of the group’s rise, and also on Knowles himself and the tireless work he put in pushing the girls to fame.
Knowles, who co-created Destiny’s Child in 1990 and has managed them, spoke about the new theater production, which will be told from his unique perspective (below):
“I want to pull back the curtain. I feel it’s time to give the world an opportunity to hear, see and feel the victories and failures that I’ve had as a husband, father and manager who risked everything in pursuit of fulfilling dreams – those of mine and others.”
A detailed release about the musical has more info (below):
“Told from [Knowles’] perspective, Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical will start its roller coaster tale at the point of humble beginnings and travel through a captivating storyline addressing the layers of evolution – good and bad – that Knowles faced during his pioneering climb into the music industry. Ultimately, the story shares the message that building a dream takes sacrifice, even at the cost of everything and everyone you love.”
Wonder if the classic hit songs will be included, or they’ll focus on an entirely new list of jams!? Sounds like a completely fresh take to us!
The musical is set to premiere in Houston some time in 2020 and, like we mentioned, they have their sights set on Broadway, London’s West End, and eventually its own world tour. Those are big goals! We’ll see what happens…
As for now, what do U think, Perezcious readers?! Would U go watch the Destiny’s Child musical next year??? The girl group’s epic reunion at Coachella last year WAS a total hit, with a large audience hungry for the trio once again.
